Updated: Sep 23, 2021

Guidelines

The National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) recommends that all adults over 20 have a cholesterol test every five years.

Total Cholesterol Level is about on your LDL and HDL counts. Desirable: Less than 200 mg/dL.

LDL is the "bad" cholesterol; if you have too much LDL-C in your bloodstream, it can lead to plaque buildup in your arteries, known as atherosclerosis. Optimal: Less than 100 mg/dL.

HDL is the "good" cholesterol. HDL absorbs cholesterol and carries it back to the liver to the liver. Then the liver eliminates cholesterol from the body. Higher HDL is better. High: 60 mg/dL or higher, Low: Less than 40 mg/dL.

Triglyceride is another substance that can be dangerous to your health. Lower triglyceride is better. Normal: Less than 150 mg/dL.

Healthyping Suggestions

A low-fat diet significantly cuts saturated fat. Lower your fat intake by 30 percent.

Use fish and egg white substitute for red meat, eat baked or broiled fish and egg white as the primary source of protein.

Take more soluble fiber, fruit, dry beans, peas, and oats. Healthyping's Green drink will help lower your cholesterol.

Lose weight, losing 5 to 10 pounds can help lower LDL and triglycerides and raise HDL.

Exercising increases HDL and also helps to lose weight. Get moderate to intense physical activity at least 30 minutes a day.

Don't smoke; smoking increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cancer.

Natural Ingredients to Lower Cholesterol

Fish or Krill Oil both have omega-3 fatty acids that help lower cholesterol, blood pressure, prevent blood clots and maintain the elasticity of the blood vessels to help prevent heart attack and stroke. Take fish oil 1000mg twice a day, with food.

Niacin lowers the total cholesterol, increases the HDL, enhances restful sleep, dilates blood vessels, reduces blood pressure, improves circulation, and helps with general health. Sustained-release Niacin is the first choice. Take 100 to 200 mg a day with food.

Policosanol is an excellent natural alternative to statin drugs; it cuts the total cholesterol, slashes LDL, raises HDL, and drops dangerous triglycerides. Take 10mg once or twice a day.

For most people to reduce their cholesterol, it is helpful to have a low-fat diet, exercise, and take some of the above remedies. People who have very high cholesterol or already have coronary artery disease may need medication to keep it under control.

Medication to Lower Cholesterol

Statin, Rosuvastatin, brands name Crestor, prescription needed. Crestor has more minor side effects.
