COVID-19

Updated: Oct 4, 2021

The virus doesn't care about race, and the pandemic has no borders. Everyone has an equal opportunity to get COVID-19, which is highly contagious, especially in the first week after infection. COVID-19 has the characteristics of both SARS and AIDS. It could damage the lung as SARS and cause lymphocytopenia (CD4 depletion) as AIDS. Severe cases involve multiple organs and systems damaged, such as lungs, heart, liver, kidneys, blood, nerve, and immune system at the same time. The general mortality of COVID-19 is about 2%. It is most important to fully protect yourself and stay healthy to slow down the pandemic surge and save medical resources for others. So how do you deal with this challenging situation?

Healthyping's suggestions are as follows:

Prevention

General care

Stay at home as much as you can. While shopping you need to wear a mask and gloves. In a public area, you should keep a social distance of 6 feet or more to others. Before touching your face, eyes, nose, or mouth, you must wash your hands or use hand sanitizer to clean your hands. Use a sinus rinse daily. Gargle your throat with salt water twice a day. Stay positive, get enough sleep, eat healthily, drink water often, exercise, and avoid hot chili foods that trigger throat inflammation to quickly let the virus break-in.

Supplements

Take vitamin B2 100 mg/day, vitamin C 500 mg/day, vitamin D3 1000 IU/day, vitamin E 100-400 IU/day, and zinc 20 mg/day; Take probiotics or eat homemade fresh yogurt every day. These supplements have antioxidants and reduce free radicals and enhance immune function.

Foods and Herbs

Daily drinks: 1) Fresh lemonade with Ginger. 2) Herbal tea with Huang Qi, Jujube (Chinese dates), Goji berry as a daily drink. The two drinks daily will keep you healthy.

Treatment for early or mild cases

Ginger, Onion, Garlic

If you feel under the weather or have a mild cold, you should drink Ginger, Onion, Garlic water right away. Take a thumb size of Ginger, a quarter of an onion, five cloves of garlic, a half lemon peel, and one cup of mint leaf, cut them into small pieces, add 4 cups of water and boil them. After the water is boiling and brewing for 2-3 minutes, wait until it cools to drink. You can repeatedly boil, brew and drink until the water has no more taste. This spicy water warms up your immune system and cleans toxins off your body, and kills germs.

Chinese Herbs

If you have a slight fever, sore throat, stuffy nose, body aches, cough, or chest congestion, you could take a Chinese herbal drink with Ginger, Chai Hu, Huang Qin, Yin Hua, Lian Qiao, Ban Lan Gen, Yu Xing Cao, Chen Pi, Gan Cao. If the taste of the herbal drink is unfavorable to take, you might use the Chinese patent medicine: "Lian Hua Qing Wen Jiao Nang" or "Jin Hua Qing Gan Ke Li." Both herbal medications treated SARS very effectively in China in 2003; you could take either one.

Update information

Since 2020 the famous Chinese patent herb called "Clear Lung & Detox; Qing Fei Pai Du Tang; 清肺排毒汤" made an outstanding contribution to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in China. This herb is available in most Chinese herb stores now. But it would be best if you took this herb with Mormon tea( Ephedra, 麻黄) because the original herbal formula has Ephedra. When Chinese herb companies import Qing Fei Pai Du Tang 清肺排毒汤 to the US, they have to remove Ephedra by law.

Over the counter medicines

If you have thick phlegm in your lungs, you could use over-the-counter expectorant Guaifenesin called Chest Mucus Relief. It relieves chest congestion, thins and loosens mucus, and makes coughs more productive. Do not use anti-cough medicine, which may cause more problems.

If you need to take antipyretics for high fever, use Tylenol because the World Health Organization initially recommended not using Ibuprofen, then relented.

Need to see a doctor

If you have short breaths or difficulty breathing, or the oximeter shows your oxygen level below 95, you need to seek medical help ASAP.
