Anger signals the body to prepare for a fight. When the person gets angry, adrenalin and other hormones release into your bloodstream to increase blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate. Anger is a normal response to daily events or any thread situation.
Hostility is being ready for a fight all the time. Continual hostility keeps the blood pressure high and may increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other illnesses. Being hostile also isolates the person from other people.
When adults approach their later years, their hormone production declines to cause women’s menopause and men’s andropause (male menopause). Since the hormones are out of balance, both women and men get irritated easier and get angered at things that did not upset them during their life change.
Home Treatment
Try to understand the real reason why you are angry. Is it the current situation that is making you mad or something that happened earlier in the day? Notice when you start to become angry and take steps to deal with your anger positively. Do not ignore your anger until you “blow up.” Express your anger in healthy ways: 1) Count to 10 and a deep breath to release the stress and pressure. When you have calmed down, you will be better able to discuss the conflict rationally. 2) Do stretching, Yoga, TaiChi, or meditation; Go for a short walk or jog; Talk about your anger with a friend. 3) Draw or paint to release the anger or write about it in a journal.
